Conclusion

Hard control is favored among those who primarily wish to prevent the destruction of the infrastructures along the beach while managed retreats and beach nourishment are used to preserve the beach’s shoreline and healthy ecosystem. In my own perspective, Coastal erosion is a natural process and some amount of natural erosion should be respected. However, the presence of humans and valuable manmade facilities near the beach also must be maintained. Therefore, personally I think a compromise must be made to protect the beach itself and also the property near the beach. Thus, a combination of managed retreats, beach nourishment and coastal armoring appears to best compromise the needs of humans and of the beach’s ecosystem.

Ultimately, there is no single best solution for Goleta Beach Erosion control. According to Alessio, “all the solutions are case-by-case depending on the geographic location, the shoreline angle, the sand supply, the costal dunes and the human values” (Alessio). Simply put, a sustainable management approach, the one that can be flexible with constantly changing conditions, and can be modified continuously with the dynamic environment, is required in dealing with Goleta Beach Erosion. My suggestion will be that the sustainable management approach should be designed to combine strategies introduced earlier in the research paper, which are rock revetment, managed retreats and beach nourishment.
